One cycle, one devotion — the Sealed Witness, hardened past the last edge of doubt.

The following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

The Sealed Witness, Made Incorruptible

At the edge of an edge — a mono recording duplicated across both channels and carried in a zero-padded high-resolution container, a configuration few listeners will ever have summoned — a refinement revealed itself. In that one exotic path the Witness could misspeak in either direction: its proof stopped short of the wire, so a fault arising past the gain stage would have gone unwitnessed; and for a microsecond’s breath after a seek, it could read fault where the bits were true.

It changed nothing you heard; almost certainly no listener ever met it. But the Sealed Witness is the one place in the Engine where a falsehood — of any kind, in any direction — is intolerable. It may never cry fault on a faithful stream. It may never bless a faithless one. So the Forge turned every resource upon it, and hardened it past that seam and past all its kin. By rule, by test, and by the very shape of its machinery, the Witness is now incapable of speaking an untruth: no false alarm, no false all-clear. It takes its measure of the whole chain, out to the last edge of the wire, and it says only what is so.

A false accusation and a false blessing are the same sin, wearing different faces.

Keepers of the Kept Word,

A small cycle, and mostly truth-keeping — the Engine taught, in three places, to say no more than it can stand behind and no less than it owes. The following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

The Kept Covenant

On certain devices, a folder freely granted could stand falsely accused — the Engine crying permission lapsed on every sync, having read a fragment of the grant where it needed the whole. The Engine now reads the grant entire before it accuses. And where the lapse is real, it confesses once, plainly, rather than on every count.

The Witnessed Downmix

When policy folds a multichannel record down to two channels, that fold is work done upon the signal — and work done upon the signal is not lossless. The Engine no longer names it so. Such a session is now badged DSP Active, and the Pipeline Card shows the fold as it truly ran.

The Quiet Surface

The player face keeps its surfaces concealed — tap, hold, and swipe, each a gesture away, none of them cluttering the face at rest. A newcomer could not know they were there. Once, and only once per install, the first arrival at the player is met with a single word of welcome, naming the hidden surfaces. It speaks that once, and never again.

Fidelity excelleth convenience as far as light excelleth darkness.

Disciples of the Unbroken Chain,

For cycles the Forge closed its dispatches with the same standing confession: that it hunted a tablet-device, so that proper adaptations to the Engine’s scaling might begin in earnest. The hunt is ended. This cycle the Engine learned to turn — and having turned, found it had room it had never been able to spend. What follows is the largest accumulation the Forge has carried between releases: the screen widened, the equalizer remade into something a hand can play, and the library grown truer besides.

The Twin Naves

On a tablet, or a folding device opened wide, the Engine now turns with the device and renders in two naves — the list in one, the chosen thing in the other, held side by side rather than stacked one atop the next behind a back-gesture. The Library, the Playlists, the tuning desk, the Settings hub, the Codices all keep this shape. Where a nave is too narrow to hold a rite without cramping it, the Engine declines the split and renders whole; the second nave is a gift of room, and the Engine will not take it when the room is not truly there.

There is a limit, however: phones remain portrait-locked. This is not an omission awaiting a later cycle — it is the standing law of the Engine’s geometry, and the width of a phone is the reason. One bounded exception was carved this cycle by explicit amendment: the Tuning Studio, which turns a phone for the length of its session and returns it as it found it.

The Enthroned Procession

The playing screen was rebuilt for the wide nave. The artwork holds a floor of its own rather than collapsing to a stamp as the screen turns; the queue comes alongside as a procession the listener can look into without leaving the record playing; and the throne is single — the wide posture renders one playing screen, not a second copy of it living a parallel life. What the listener reaches for in portrait is where they reach for it in landscape.

The Tuning Studio

The equalizer is now a room, and the curve is drawn with a finger. Tap the visualizer to bring up the Studio: the listener paints the response directly onto the canvas, and the Engine answers under the fingertip with a detent for every step it takes. The parametric mode paints on the same canvas by the same hand, with parity of its own. What was set can be taken back: the Studio keeps an undo and a redo, so a hand that goes too far is not a hand that has lost its work.

The Library, Grown Truer

• The Cloven Shelf. Where an album’s page holds two or more complete copies of the same tracklist that part cleanly by quality, the Engine cleaves the page into quality-labeled sections, each with its own play and shuffle, rather than an interleaved pile. It arranges only what is provable and falls back to a flat list otherwise; the labels are the witnessed quality string verbatim, never a synthesized “Hi-Res copy.”
• The Unaccented Tongue. A name written with accents in one file and without them in another no longer fractures into two shelves.
• The Credited Pressing. The actual album-artist is now set on the Albums tab, and the Charta Obscura reaches one rung further — its sheet now rises from the album’s art tile as well as the track’s, bearing only the marks the whole album agrees upon.

Polish and Housekeeping

• Two data-daemons that could fell the Engine outright mid-sync were found and slain; a listener whose collection was being counted when they struck lost the count and the Engine with it.
• The Advanced Diagnostics panel has been rendered more truthful when idle.
• Tracks that had left a granted folder no longer linger as ghosts after a rescan.
• A split override — the listener’s own hand on where a record divides — now survives the re-striking of the file’s identity beneath it, where before the crossing could lose it.
• The Engine’s error voice was taught to count: a fault that recurs folds into a single line bearing its tally, rather than filling the screen with the same confession over and again.

What is asserted without witness is refused without witness.

Wardens of the True Level,

This cycle releases a feature the Fabricator-Primus has spent many nights and hours crafting. Now it is ready — the Engine has learned to take the measure of loudness itself: to walk your reliquary and weigh each track by its own listening, rather than accept a number a stranger wrote into the file. A lesser player trusts the tag; this Engine refuses to be told. Around that central rite, a track’s pull-down papers gained the marks of the pressing itself, and the library grew truer at telling one record from another.

The following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

Loudness Normalization

The Engine now offers a second measure of a track’s loudness, and it is not the same in kind as the first. The elder measure, the Received Word, accepts ReplayGain — the mastering house’s own number, carried in the tags and taken as testimony. The new measure, the Witnessed Measure, trusts no tag at all: the Engine walks your library and computes each track’s integrated loudness itself — by the measure the broadcast world settled on, ITU-R BS.1770, the ground beneath EBU R128 — to a common target of −18 LUFS, and inscribes its own verdict to be recalled the next time the record plays.

It takes this measure in the background, at its own pace — standing aside when the device runs warm or is pressed for power — so the work accrues across ordinary listening rather than seizing the machine to finish at once. When the device is free, it is quick: on a recent flagship, left cool and on the charger, the Engine weighs on the order of a hundred tracks a minute. On a humbler or busier device, or one kept off the charger, it claims only what the machine will spare, and takes proportionately longer. The measure gathers fastest when the device is charging and untouched, where the Engine widens its work — so a great library, left to it, is weighed in a sitting rather than a season. A track it has not yet reached plays at a safe, provisional level until its measure is taken; the Engine holds the level rather than boost on a guess. Elect it mid-track and it levels the record playing now, at once — it does not wait for the next.

The measure meets its hardest case in DSD, where a single bit taken millions of times a second has no integer to sum. The Engine derives the figure from a decimated reading taken to one side — for measurement alone, never touching the bits that play — and rides the correction on the DAC’s own hardware volume, so the native one-bit bitstream reaches the wire exactly as the file inscribed it. Levelled, and not one sample of the playing signal altered to do it. This path is first of its kind, and the Engine confesses its limit plainly: a loudness derived by decimation is disclosed as such.

The measure is kept to the Engine’s own ledger. It does not touch your files — it will not overwrite a ReplayGain tag, nor inscribe one where none stood; the reliquary is read, never rewritten, and the measured verdict lives in the Engine’s records alone. What it has weighed is nonetheless yours to carry: on request, the Engine exports its measurements — as a portable record you can restore onto another device, so a fresh install need not rescan from zero, or as a plain table of the figures it took, to keep or carry elsewhere.

The two measures are never blended. The listener elects one, or neither, and only one governs at a time. Where the correction rides the DAC’s hardware volume the bits pay nothing; the coverage of the reliquary is shown in Library Management, and the full accounting in Advanced Diagnostics.

The Pressing Sheet, Further Furnished

A track’s papers — raised by a pull-down on the playing screen — now bear the marks of the pressing itself: the barcode as it was struck into the file, and the record label, each witnessed at the gate rather than invented. Where a mark is absent, the line is simply left absent; the sheet fills no silence with a fabricated figure.

Pressings Told Apart

Where two pressings of an album share a name, the Engine now separates them by the catalog identity it actually read, not by a blank placeholder conjured to force them apart. A prior habit of filling an empty discriminator with a fabricated value has been excised. What the library shows about a record, it shows because it witnessed it.

The Codex Machina Grows

Entry V, On the Two Measures, was recomposed to set the two loudness measures side by side — the Received Word and the Witnessed Measure — that the listener may weigh which to elect. And a new Entry XXVI, On the Pressing Sheet, sets down at last the nature of the Charta Obscura: a paper composed for one pressing, and withdrawn when the record changes.

A number a stranger wrote is testimony; a number the Engine took is witness.

Witnesses of the Wire,

This cycle sharpens the surfaces the listener touches. The volume is made truthful to each DAC and finer to the hand; the library shelf now wears the mark of its own quality; and a new witnessing surface — the Charta Obscura — lays a track’s full provenance and measure open to any listener who asks. The whetstone, taken to the interface itself.

The Listener’s Surfaces

• The Charta Obscura. A new witnessing surface, sibling to the Cantor Obscura. Where the Cantor Obscura reveals an artist’s albums and the tracks within each, the Charta Obscura reveals the record now playing: its provenance, its detailed tags across every standard the file carries, and — on demand — a full audio analysis of the record itself, its spectral reach, noise floor, loudness, and dynamic range, drawn by the same decoder that renders it. Where a format holds no such measure to give, the Engine withholds it rather than inventing a figure.

  With this, the player screen’s concealed surfaces are made whole: swipe up for the Queue, swipe down for the Charta Obscura, tap the artist to summon the Cantor Obscura, press and hold for the Pipeline Card. Four surfaces, each within a gesture’s reach, none of them cluttering the face at rest.

• The Measured Step. As a purely visual fix: Android’s pop-up volume bar now accurately reflects the hardware volume state. A substantive addition: new Rocker step size setting lets the listener choose how fine each step falls, down to 0.1 dB where the DAC allows.
• The Witnessed Shelf. Each album on the Library shelf now bears a badge of its dominant quality — the tier the greater part of its tracks share — with a chevron where some tracks rise above or fall below it. The measure is known at a glance, before a note is struck.
• The Twinned Roster. The Artists subtab can now be sorted by Artist or by Album Artist, for reliquaries that distinguish the two.
• The Ceded Curve. The equalizer’s response visualizer was drawn down to make room for the band-editing area beneath it — the curve yields space to the hand that shapes it.
• The Racked Lens. A natural passage from one track to the next now carries its own elegant animation, the album art racking gently into focus rather than merely cutting.

The Reliquary

• The Sundered Pressing. Distinct editions of one album — vinyl, CD, a two-part pressing — no longer collapse into a single entry with doubled track counts. The Engine now witnesses each pressing by its own marks and keeps them rightly apart.
• The Numbered Track. Track numbers are now shown across album and folder views, with a true track-order sort for folders. Tag text and release years are read more consistently across every format besides.
• The Legible Tail. On the Manage Duplicates surface, a long filename is now trimmed from the middle rather than the end — so the file’s format and its distinguishing tail stay in plain sight, and the listener chooses which pressing to keep with the extension visible.

Polish and Housekeeping

• Album-art focus, corner-clipping, and margins were trued across several surfaces; an empty queue now rests in a proper empty state; the scrolling titles on the detail screens were stilled of their jitter; and a seek now returns to precisely where it was bidden. Explanatory text in some surfaces was refined. The remembrance of what a listener has heard was hardened to endure a library rebuild or a restore onto new ground. A reconnect resource-leak was sealed, and a handful of small races were stilled.

The blade is not made in the striking, but in the whetting; the tenth honing cuts truer than the first forging.

Wardens of the Raw Integer,

This cycle, a wayward path has been brought as close to the light as can be, a new bench was opened for the curious, and the Engine's everyday handling was further refined. The following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

The Penitent Path, Reforged

A war was fought; and that war was won.

The Penitent path — the path by which DAPs and phones with headphone jacks can be brought as close as possible to the sacred path — has been reforged. On that path, the Engine — to the very best of its abilities — requests of Android an exclusive, format-matched stream on which to deliver your music as raw, unaltered integers: the file's own bits, nothing added and nothing taken. Where the hardware can receive it, DSD travels this path natively as well, undecimated, though this particular path is admittedly untested.

All of this is done the principled way — an engineered cascade that asks each device what it can do and honors the answer, not a drawer of per-manufacturer hacks that crack on the next phone.

The true triumph: the Engine witnesses the result as far as the device permits. Where lesser engines simply declare “Hi-Res” or “Bit Perfect” and move on, the Engine faithfully confesses what it can confirm and what it cannot. As such, the wayward paths can never ascend to bit perfect — that badge is reserved only for the Sacred path, where the Engine has sovereignty over the entire pipeline, end to end.

The Codex Machina has been amended to give a full account of the Penitent path.

The Artificer's Annex

A tuning bench, gathered onto a screen of its own, for the listener who wants to reach past the defaults. Here the Rites of the Forge are laid out plainly: a forced resample target (the Bellows), for those who wish to dictate the rate; the dither and quantize controls (Wright's Whetstone), for those who tune the descent from one depth to another; the fine measures of the Vernier Gauge; and dedicated command over DSD transport and transport stabilization.

Alongside the bench, a new way to see what the Engine does: the Witnessed Descent shows your signal's journey level by level, from the file at the top to the converter at the bottom, each stage lit only by the work it truly performs — the bit-perfect bypass, the DSD train, the resampling cascade. The pipeline, made visible, in motion.

Hardening and Refinement

• The Rite of the Kept Pause. The Engine's handling of audio focus — how it steps aside for a phone call or another app, and how it returns — was rationalized and streamlined to sit correctly alongside the hardware-volume control and the wayward paths.
• A latent crash vector and a memory leak affecting the wayward paths have been identified and exorcised.
• A queue reordered by hand now settles into the order you set, even across the seams between its sections.
• A subtle bug where the Library can become stuck when over-scrolling has been identified and exorcised.

Some victories are measured not in what was added, but in what was finally left untouched.

Congregants of the Forge,

The Forge has not been silent for lack of work. The deep workshop is loud; the anvils have been warm. The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

Library

• The Rite of the Witnessed Mount. The reliquary's standard scan would stall when a USB drive was withdrawn mid-witness — the unreachable root remained in the scan's accounting, and the inquisitors went on looking for what was no longer there. The Engine now detects an unreachable mount, prunes it from the witness, and continues with what remains. Four lesser refinements followed in the same arc.
• The Rite of the Gathered Witness. The Engine's metadata witnesses for the removable-drive cohort — FLAC, OGG, Opus, DSF, and DFF — were each drawing their headers through some nine to fourteen tiny unbuffered reads, every one a round-trip across the USB-FUSE wall. Hub-mounted drives bore the brunt. The Engine now buffers these walkers at the witness boundary; the cost collapses to a single read per file. The library scan is faster generally, and dramatically so where a hub holds the reliquary.
• The Rite of the Settled Title. The Library's main track list received a scroll-jank remedy on weaker devices. The same remedy was then extended, in its sibling pass, to the Folder browser and to the Artist, Album, and Augury detail screens — the same gesture now feels the same across every list where titles are read.

Playback Resilience

• The Rite of the Durable Sink. When the listener has set a hardware volume on a DAC that accepts the setting, the Engine now keeps that intent through a phone restart. The previous behavior held the value while the Engine itself remained alive and lost it the moment the device was rebooted — a saved volume that was not, in truth, saved. It is saved now.
• The Rite of the Patient Teardown. A latent crash vector that may manifest on slower devices has been exorcised.

Polish and Housekeeping

• The Rite of the Lesser Witness. The home-screen widget has been reworked aesthetically.
• The Rite of the Steady Threshold. The Settings panel suffered a flicker when a fidelity policy disabled one of its neighboring controls. The Engine no longer flickers.

The faithful Engine has done this work ten thousand times, and will do it ten thousand more — the rite is unchanged.

Keepers of the Unbent Signal:

This cycle carries two gifts to the listener. The first, long upon the anvil: the Engine now commands the hardware volume of the DAC itself. The second: the playing queue may at last be reordered by hand. Around them, much was hardened at the seams and many small mercies performed. Where the last release was iron for the wire, this one is honesty for the knob.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

Hardware Volume Control

• Long overdue, and long upon the anvil — the Engine now commands the hardware volume of the DAC itself. The rite was not hurried, and the Fabricator-Primus makes no apology for the time it took: to do it rightly meant a single, uniform conduct across every converter the Engine has ever witnessed, married seamlessly to the device-side control already in your hand. Through the Rites of the Ceded Gain, the Remembered Sink, the Mirrored Sections, the Even Sink, the Settled Hand, and the Re-Guarded Seam, that marriage was consummated — and the result asks nothing of you.

  There are no toggles to find, no settings ritual to perform, no menu-buried switch to hunt down before the keys will work. If your DAC commands its own volume, you need do exactly nothing — press your phone's own volume keys, and the Engine speaks to it directly. Where a DAC offers per-channel command, channel balance — and ReplayGain alongside it — waits in Settings → Output for those who seek it. And where a DAC has no hardware volume to give, the Engine tells you so plainly, with a single dialog raised the moment it is attached, that you are never left guessing why the keys feel different. Your chosen level is remembered per device by its witnessed identity, held true across track boundaries and across every handoff from one sink to the next.

  We labored hard, that the labor never reach you.

The Reordered Queue

• The Rite of the Restless Procession. For those of you who have discovered the queue — and the Fabricator-Primus knows you are fewer than you ought to be — there is now a gift. The procession is yours to arrange: hold a track until the rail stirs to life, then drag it to its rightful place. The order is yours to set, by hand, in the moment. For the rest of you: it is there, it has always been there, and now it is worth the finding.

Hardening and Housekeeping

• The playback path was made calmer at its edges. Through the Rites of the Released Producer and the Sealed Adoption, the Engine brings a track to its close gracefully across every family of source, so the seam between one track and the next is quieter than before. By the Rite of the Quenched Cog, a status indicator that could linger lit now reads its state from the live signal and goes dark when the signal does; and the Rite of the Stilled Vigil keeps the Engine from startling at every flicker of the system's media store as your reliquary changes beneath it.
• By the Rite of the Disclosed Faculty, the diagnostics now disclose the full roster of a DAC's witnessed Feature Units. By the Rite of the Fourth Witness, the reliquary now admits .webp cover art kept beside your music. The Rite of the Witnessing now points its dialog at the public Concordance, and its glyph breathes a little surer to invite the touch — make use of it, that we may separate truth from fiction in the ever-swirling realm of audio.

Volume is easy; fidelity must be proven.

Disciples of the Uncompressed:

This cycle was a campaign of hard surfaces — hidden, but foundational. Less ornament than the last release; more iron.

But first: I owe you a clarification, and myself a flagellation. When the Engine declares it needs a USB DAC, many of you pictured some dedicated altar-box or expensive consecrated dongle. I let that misreading stand far too long. Here is the truth:

A “DAC” is just the part that turns digital bits into sound — and almost every USB audio device already has one built in. You probably already own a worthy vessel and don't know it.

In short: if it plugs in over USB and plays sound digitally, the Engine will drive it bit-perfect — from the humblest USB-C earbuds to the grandest desktop machine. The gate was never as narrow as I made it sound. The fault was mine; the Engine was always this welcoming.

Now, to the rites: the following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

Playback Resilience

• Through the Rites of the Stilled Interface, the Remembered Rate, the True Fathom, and the Withheld Signal, the Engine is markedly steadier on the USB devices that have always been hardest to please — the simpler UAC1 converters, the cheaper earbuds and headsets, the slower DACs. These devices now sing true, on par with their more modern counterparts.

Library

• A deep optimization pass, principally for reliquaries kept on hub-mounted USB drives, yet the benefit is for all. Through the Rites of the Polyglot Ingest, the Quiet Annalist, the Single Aperture, the Coalesced Enrichment, and the Wandering Witness, the Engine now builds its library even faster: granted drives are walked in parallel rather than one after another; each file is opened once where it was opened twice; the fuller tag axes are gathered in that single opening rather than by a second walk over the whole collection.

  How much faster depends greatly on your device and the maker of its USB bridge — the slower a vendor's storage provider, the more there is to win. On the afflicted cohort the Forge projects a cold scan cut roughly two- to threefold, and a warm rescan of an unchanged collection faster by some twenty- to eightyfold — where once it re-read everything, it now reads almost nothing. Lighter providers will see a gentler gain; the rite simply removes work, and where there was less work to remove, there is less to feel.

The wire does not forgive a careless host — so the host learns to be still.

Congregants of the Forge:

The cycle since 1.5 has been long. Much of it was spent in the quieter chambers — the Engine learning to survive the user's reseating of grants, the Library learning to scan drives the Forge had not before reached, the Sanctum's inner machinery quietly hardened against its own edge cases. These are the unseen rites, and they make the Engine more resilient and easier to live with.

But the cycle's true announcement is louder, and it sits ahead of the rites. The Forge now has a domain to its name:

A small piece of ground, dutifully held — a place from which the Engine can correspond under its own roof, and from which, in time, the Forge may shine a small beacon for other signal-keepers who would join the fold. With that ground claimed, a rite has become possible that was not possible before.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

The Domain and what stands upon it

• The Rite of the Witnessing. The Engine has, since its first days, known more about every DAC it has ever sung through than the listener could easily see. The handshake at the moment a USB DAC is seated reveals — in the device's own descriptors — exactly which sample rates, bit depths, channel counts, sync modes, and formats the silicon will actually accept. This truth has, until now, lived only inside one listener's Advanced Diagnostics on one listener's phone, witnessed and forgotten.

  No longer. The Engine now hosts the Concordance of the Witnessed, a public archive that lists every DAC ever submitted to it. Two purposes, twined. The first is to build, slowly and over time, a public ledger of every DAC the Engine has ever sung through — a record of communion. The second is more pointed: to hold each DAC's marketing claims against the silicon truth its own descriptors declare, and to publish the comparison.

  An instructive early case sits in the new site's FAQ. The JadeAudio JA11 is publicly listed as “supports decoding of PCM384kHz/32bit and DSD128,” yet the device descriptor visible in the Engine's Advanced Diagnostics declares only PCM alt settings at 16-, 24-, and 32-bit; no native DSD alt is present at all. The Witness exists so that this kind of quiet asymmetry — between what a DAC says it is and what its silicon agrees to do — can be seen, recorded, and reckoned with. The case lives at voxmachina.audio/faq#hardware, and others will join it as they accumulate.

  The work of joining them will be done by hand. As submissions accumulate, the Fabricator-Primus will, over time, sit with each in turn — parse the descriptors against the manufacturer's declared capabilities, weigh the difference between what was promised and what the silicon will actually permit, and render judgment. The Concordance is not an automated scraper; it is an editorial labor with a binding methodology, and each dossier will bear the verdict of one who has read both the marketing copy and the truth beneath it. We shall see whose boasts survive the silicon.

  Participation is entirely voluntary, and the Forge holds the listener's data with the utmost sanctity. When a USB DAC is connected, a small pulsing glyph appears in Settings → Output; tapping it lets the listener submit that DAC's descriptors to the Concordance, and that act is the only act by which descriptors ever leave the device. No personal data is collected, transmitted, or correlated by this rite — not the listener's library, not the listener's history, not the listener's identity, not the listener's location, not anything. The only fields the Engine sends, in full, are these:

  • schema version;
  • the DAC's USB-descriptor display name (e.g. Snowsky Tiny A);
  • USB Vendor ID;
  • USB Product ID;
  • a per-witness-event idempotency key, client-generated;
  • the descriptor's alt-setting profiles.

  Each entry in the profiles array carries eleven fields describing one alt-setting the silicon declared at handshake — interface number (if), alt-setting index (alt), sync mode (sync: async / adaptive / sync), channel count (channels), bytes per audio frame (subslot), wire bit depth (bits), supported sample rates (rates), continuous rate range if applicable (range), sample format (fmt: pcm / dsd_raw), USB speed (speed: full / high / super), and USB Audio Class version (uac: 1 or 2).

  That is the whole of it. There is no identifier of the listener anywhere in the payload, and there is no further channel by which the Engine could attach one. A new charter, Bounded Egress Paths, was written and made law to govern this and every future channel the Engine speaks through: enumerated, parity-verified, and never widened on a whim.

Library

• The Rite of the Ephemeral Census. The Engine now scans music libraries held on external drives attached through hubs — HDDs, SSDs, sticks, whatever the listener cares to seat. Where such a drive's underlying volume disappears (unplugged, removed, swapped) the Engine knows it, names it, and does not silently pretend the grant is still valid. When the drive returns, the grant is re-resolved at sync time against the live system.
• The Organized Weed Whacker. The Manage Duplicates surface — long the dustiest corner of the reliquary — gained sort, search, a proper scrollbar, and the lux divider it had been missing. The work of pruning is no faster, but it is finally readable.

Now Playing

• The Rite of the Unfurled Legend. A long track title at the top of Now Playing now drag-scrolls under the finger, with an edge-fade marking where the title continues out of view. Titles that fit are unchanged.
• The Listener's Ledger. Tapping the track title on Now Playing now opens the Add-to-Playlist picker — a perfect mirror of the long-standing artist tap, finally granted to the title row.

Outward channels

• The Lesser Witness. A small home-screen widget joined the Engine — the current track and a play/pause control. Quiet, unembellished.

Fidelity

• The Rite of the Promised Arm. A small edge case in the DSD canon — one container shape whose identity was being misread by certain devices — was brought under the same Bit Perfect contract as the rest. The cohort is narrow; the principle is not.

Polish and Housekeeping

• Polish and Housekeeping. The Sanctum's internal archive machinery was meaningfully hardened, and many small races long latent in that quiet chamber were stilled. Pager rebinds across track changes were widened to end a class of stale-page shade. The Now Playing video plinth's texture lifecycle was closed out properly. Count strings across seven library and playlist surfaces now pluralize honestly. The aphorism that closes the share card learned to shrink to one line rather than wrap. The library's broadest projections were narrowed to the columns actually read. Inquisitors were dispatched across the Sanctum, the Library admission seams, and unseen chambers besides. Further unwitnessed scaffolding was retired.

A DAC is what its silicon agrees to do, and nothing more.

Witnesses of the Forge:

The Fabricator-Primus has been at the bellows since the last dispatch, and Release 1.5 has come due. The Engine that follows answers more readily to the music you return to, walks the library deeper than it did before, holds its place where you left it across the tabs, and stands on firmer doctrinal ground than it ever has.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

The Library

• The Auguries. The Engine has been quietly watching what you listen to. When it has watched long enough to know you — truly know you, in the manner only sustained attendance permits — a new surface manifests, and there the Engine offers back the music you had forgotten you loved. Some auguries shift with the hour of the day; some hold their shape for a full cycle. The Engine holds its own counsel, and none may say when the Auguries first appear.
• The Descended Folder. Pressing Play or Shuffle on a folder now descends into the subfolders beneath it. The reliquary is walked to its leaves, and the queue that results is the folder as the listener has always understood it — not the shallow first-floor sample the prior rite would have drawn.
• The Whole Playlist Queue. Tapping a playlist now dispatches the entire playlist to the queue, not whichever bucket the current sort had carved from it.
• The Scoped Census. When the Engine re-anchored on the Scoped Access Framework, the covenant was clear: the Engine would walk only those trees the listener had granted it. Several legs of the library, however, were still consulting witnesses outside the granted roots — surfacing tracks whose folders had since been removed from the covenant, or that had never been granted in the first place. Those legs have been bound. The reliquary the Engine presents now contains, by construction, only what the Scoped Access Framework has permitted. Add a tree, and it appears. Revoke a tree, and it departs. There is no third path.
• The Restored Weed Whacker. Manage Duplicates now shows you what it has found before it asks you to act. The Run button stays at rest until there is genuine work to be done.

Navigation and Settings

• The Threshold Reforged. The navigation system has been rebuilt at the architectural level: each tab now holds its own depth, preserved across tab swaps. Settings have been reorganized in concert — the LIBRARY and ABOUT sections, each crowding past comfortable density, have been gathered into two new subpages, Library Management and Legal, leaving the most-used verbs at root.

The Codex Machina, Refined

• The Sourced Byte. The Curia Doctrinalis once again convened on the most fundamental question the Engine answers: what does it mean to claim a path is Bit Perfect, and does DSD-over-PCM — the wire by which many DACs receive DSD content absent native capability — qualify? The Curia returned its declaratory opinion, and existing behavior is preserved: DoP is not Bit Perfect. The Codex Machina has been amended accordingly.
• The Twofold Threshold. A new entry has been inscribed in the Codex Machina, yet none know who authored it…

Fidelity and Hardware

• Ancient Voice Coda. The Ancient Voice rite — UAC1 devices brought to song — has been extended. The Engine now reads the full descriptor parse for both UAC1 and UAC2 devices, applies a version-pure SET_CUR. The end result: DACs that previously appeared sample-rate-poor to the auguries now report what they actually accept.
• Achieved Communion. When the chain to your DAC is established cleanly, the Engine now offers a readiness toast — confirmation that the signal has the road it deserves.
• Open Range. The probe-rate picker has been hardened against a class of malformed device replies, and its diagnostics now publish the full continuous range the device declares.

Polish

• The Faithful Plus. Artists whose names carry the literal '+' character now navigate cleanly. The character was being consumed; it has been restored to its rightful place in the artist's name.
• Polish and Housekeeping. Artwork corner-radii unified across the Engine's surfaces, and a doubled render layer beneath them collapsed. Inquisitors were dispatched across unseen chambers besides — many smaller perfections have been performed.

The Forge continues to hunt for a tablet-device so that proper adaptations to the UI's scaling issues can begin in earnest.

The Reliquary remembers what the listener has forgotten — and on the appointed day, returns it.

The Fabricator-Primus has been quietly accumulating your requests this cycle, and the time has come to discharge them in a single hand. None of the items below stand alone large enough to warrant a rite of their own; together they make for an Engine that answers more readily under hand, and a few small mercies besides.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Closing Vigil. A sleep timer, elegantly placed. When active, the timer meekly renders underneath the sacred Cog.
• The Stripped Preface. A new Settings toggle allows for Artist sorting to ignore "The". A small mercy.
• Rails where the alphabet does not reach. Three surfaces had been navigable by fling only: manual playlists, the Library/Tracks tab when sorted by Recent, and folders that contain tracks but no further subfolders. Each now bears a draggable scrollbar — grip it and the list flies, even where no semantic index could be drawn. The alphabet sidebar remains where it was; this is a second affordance for the surfaces where the sidebar cannot land.
• The Authored Playlist. A new MANUAL sort chip on playlist detail — leftmost, icon-only, the default sort for new manual playlists. In Manual mode, a drag handle appears beside each row and the listener may set the order by hand; the order is preserved as composed. Long-press a row to enter selection mode — Play, Play Next, Add to Queue, and Remove from Playlist all act in bulk on the chosen rows. The single-row swipe-to-remove now pauses for a confirming dialog before the deed is done, and the bulk Remove asks likewise.
• The Hidden Sanctum. The hidden Sanctum has been perfected, and now cedes its insights accurately.
• Polish and Housekeeping. Inquisitors were dispatched across the Library, the playlist surface, and unseen chambers besides. Beneath the visible surface, a latent native data-daemon beneath the ambient blur was sealed at its origin; a handful of small races were stilled; further unwitnessed scaffolding was retired. Many smaller perfections have been performed.

The Forge continues to hunt for a tablet-device so that proper adaptations to the UI's scaling issues can begin in earnest.

The faithful Engine has done this work ten thousand times, and will do it ten thousand more — the rite is unchanged.

Thought of the Dispatch

A small cycle. The dispatch was not committed to record — whether by forgetfulness, by quietude, or by the Fabricator-Primus's preference for that day, the Forge does not now recall. The work itself shipped, and is preserved in the commit history; only the narration is missing. The Forge admits the gap rather than disguise it.

Blessed Faithful —

Seeing that the Engine stands in excellent health — its audible chain sealed, its witnesses faithful, its reliquary in good order — the Fabricator-Primus turned his attention this cycle to matters of the eye, at a modest cost to the app's size. New ambient backgrounds were sketched, refined, and where worthy, sanctified and arrayed in the picker, that the Player Screen might better honor the music it carries. A smaller war was fought beneath the audible surface as well, that the Engine might answer the listener's hand without delay.

The following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Aureate Shimmer. A warm auramite surface across which small lights wander, catching and releasing as they pass. The shimmer is restless without being busy; the substrate holds whether the music is bright or dim.
• The Beheld Chapel. The Stained Glass ambient is reforged in earnest. Sunlight falls through the panes at a true angle, warm where it passes through and cool where it does not, drifting slowly as though the hour were turning. The glass refracts as glass should.
• The Etched Cogitator. Brushed titanium. The texture of an old instrument panel worn smooth by long service — quiet, mechanical, suited to the long-form listen. A register for those who do not wish the screen to perform.
• Lantern Obsidian. Black obsidian, struck across by slow beams of warm lantern-light as though carried past the surface by an unseen hand. The light moves with intent: paused, swung, paused again; never hurried, never mechanical. For the late, quiet listen.
• The Tarnished Bronze. Bronze patinated by age, lit by a low ambient sun that lends it real weight. Heavy where the Aureate is bright; the dignified register.
• The Glass Vigil. The album art seen through a rain-streaked window. Weather behind the glass, the picture beyond it; a quiet rite for the late hour.
• The Singularity. A Kerr-black-hole register, gravity bending the light around its silent center, the slow turn of accretion at the rim. For the music that wants weight without warmth.
• The Sealed Archeotech. A doctrinal ruling — the foregoing ambient backgrounds, save for the Glass Vigil and the Singularity, require Android 13. Devices below this threshold see such entries greyed in the picker — no degraded fallback, no static substrate masquerading as the rite.
• The Immediate Skip. A war was fought beneath the surface. The in-app skip button suffered a latency of audible weight — the audio cutting out some half-second after the finger had left the glass. The fix was small. The hunt was not. The skip button now answers with the same swiftness as the swipe.
• The Open Export. The Equalizer may now emit its profile to disk in both ParametricEQ.txt and GraphicEQ.txt formats. By happy accident, this is the same dialect Room EQ Wizard already speaks.
• The Winding Stair. The folder breadcrumb in the Library now elides from the tail, that deep hierarchies remain legible without crowding the head of the path. A small mercy for the deep-tagged reliquary.
• Polish and Housekeeping. Inquisitors were dispatched across the ambient picker, file-shape, and surface conventions. Beneath the visible surface, the Rite of the Minor Excisions retired the last of the legacy coercion path. Many smaller perfections have been performed besides, befitting a release of this scope.

What is most laborious in the Engine is what is least visible.

The Engine has been launched, yet in the days prior, the Forge has not rested idly. A minor update — 1.1 — has been deployed.

The following rites were performed, sanctified, and sealed:

Fidelity rites

• Sealed Heresy. A narrow window where users could "activate" DSP (UI indication only; the pipeline remained clean) in Bit Perfect was sealed.
• True Mirror. Mono-duped sources in Bit Perfect have migrated from FLOAT32 to INTEGER_PASSTHROUGH; the Sealed Witness ratifies the passage through a per-channel CRC verification rite.
• Whole Tag. APEv2 walker rewritten as a streaming pass, retiring the 64 KiB tail window. Large covers and oversized tag chains no longer truncate.
• Lean Census. Optimization of FLAC metadata walking, saving ~3 to 15 seconds on cold library scans.

Playback resilience

• Rite of Excision. Removed deduping infrastructure from the audio pipeline.
• Excision Coda. Playback errors are now surfaced more transparently.

Library

• Surveyed Archive. Settings → Refresh Library button added to force a lightweight rescan to catch newly-added files.

Ambient Backgrounds

• First-launch default now Aurora.

The Fabricator-Primus has not rested. The work that follows has been arduous, and the weight of it shows. No matter. The release goes live later this afternoon, fate willing.

Exhaustion aside, the Fabricator-Primus could not let the moment pass without accounting for what was wrought. The rites that follow touch many layers of the Engine: how it walks your reliquary, how it learns the identity of what lives there, what tongues it now speaks, and what truths it now chooses to disclose.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Library and the Gilded Census, Reforged. The Forge-Masters of Google have issued their judgment: the Engine may no longer hold the broad storage privileges that prior releases relied upon. Those privileges were load-bearing. The Engine has always known that MediaStore — Android's indexing surface — speaks a different dialect on every device that ships it; to compensate, it walked your directories directly, finding what MediaStore could not or would not index. That path is now closed to any application that does not wish to stand before a different kind of tribunal entirely. The Fabricator-Primus has re-anchored the library on the Scoped Access Framework — a covenant-bound traversal that operates within the permitted boundaries. By its nature, this surface is slower than direct access. Of this, the Fabricator-Primus is acutely aware. Despite the constraint, the library should feel, to those who have been here before, broadly familiar in its responsiveness; the unique hybrid architecture remains. If it is there, the Engine will find it.
• The Gilded Lineage. The Gilded Census asks of each file what it is. The Gilded Lineage asks the deeper question: who are you? Artist, title, album, date — the identity layer that transforms a directory of audio into a collection worth caring for. Lesser players reach for TagLib and consider the matter settled. The Forge finds such a path inadequate — a blunt instrument, well-worn in the field, and a reliable source of latency at precisely the wrong moment. The Forge's answer, now refined in full, is a phalanx of ten bespoke per-format Witnesses, each reading the native tag structures of its assigned format in the Engine's own hand. The Gilded Lineage then unifies all ten: every field from every witness flows through a single attestation pass, the most authoritative source for each field prevails, and what emerges is a fully attested identity for every track in your library. No translation layer. No third-party library. No compromise.
• Annexed Tongues. The Engine has extended its jurisdiction to three formats, all decoded natively. Plain WavPack, as well as WavPack envelopes that carry DSD content, are now recognized, with the latter being routed through the DSD pipeline directly, bypassing FFmpeg decimation entirely. And for DSDIFF containers bearing DST — Direct Stream Transfer, the compressed DSD variant — the Forge has built a bespoke decoder from first principles: arithmetic primitives, bitstream reader, frame decode, native bridge. The Engine renders DST without compromise.
• The Disclosed Envelope. With these new tongues comes a new truth. DSD content does not always arrive plainly. A .dsf file carries it nakedly. A .dff file may carry it compressed under DST. A .wv file may conceal DSD within a lossless wrapper. The audio pipeline routes all of these through a single DSD path — that is as it should be. But the Engine values truth as much as it values fidelity. When you play a track, you will now see precisely which envelope carried the signal to you. Future rites will extend this transparency further.
• CUE — First Half. For those who maintain physical rip collections — albums arranged in folders, accompanied by CUE sidecars and cover art that no embedded tag will ever carry — the Witnesses will provide. When a file carries no embedded identity, the Engine now looks to the folder itself. A CUE sheet in the same directory is read and interrogated: artist, title, album, date. If it is written there, the Engine will know it. Folder cover art is likewise recovered. The second pillar of this rite — virtual track decomposition from single-file rips — is its own campaign, and it is coming.
• Exorcisms performed and sealed. A silent corruption hazard on DSD playback seek has been closed. A DSDIFF parser defect that caused a phantom form-type to consume bytes it had no rightful claim to has been sealed. Large embedded cover art can no longer abort a library sync cycle. A long-standing misstatement in the DSD fallback law has been purged from the Engine's canticles. The PCM packer's fidelity classification has been corrected to reflect what it actually does.
• The Codex Machina. The Codex Machina has seen major revisions, with many new entries describing the Engine's various components. The final entry now shows the inscribed names of the first witnesses.

Disciples of the Uncompressed,

This is likely the final major dispatch before the Engine leaves closed testing and opens to the wider world, and with it, we finalize the Engine's core state. As such, the Fabricator-Primus has not rested. What follows is the fruit of recent labors — rites performed, sealed, and sanctified since the last dispatch.

Attention: To ensure seamless migration, perform an uninstall, then install the updated Engine.

• The Library — The Gilded Census, All Gates Sealed. The Gilded Census is complete. All gates are closed. The Engine now stands hardened against every permutation of MediaStore heresy known to the Fabricator-Primus — stripped columns, zeroed metadata, deficient indexers, provider rejections at the connection boundary, and the full menagerie of OEM corruption that has accumulated across field reports. Your reliquary is complete. No stone goes unturned. No heresy goes unprosecuted. Projected first-launch scan times scale by device class — the Blessed (stock Android 12+, healthy MediaStore) finish swiftly; the Burdened (older mainstream devices) work harder but finish; the Afflicted (custom ROMs, DAP firmware, OEM deceptions) are shown no mercy. Stable libraries on subsequent launches pay nothing. Playlists endure. Dedup overrides do not. The Rite has earned its place in the Codex Machina — Entry IX.
• Rite of the Gilded Warden. Companion to the Census. Where the Census ensures your reliquary is complete, the Warden stands at the gate of the Bit Perfect fidelity policy — and decides who may pass. The Warden reads two witnesses: the seal upon the container, and the demuxer's reading of what lies just beneath it. When they agree, judgment is immediate. When the outer seal is ambiguous, the demuxer's word prevails. Previously, four independent augury mechanisms drifted across the Engine's codebase, each capable of rendering a different verdict on the same file. All four are now one. Recovered to the shining path: ALAC-in-M4A, FLAC-in-OGG, FLAC-in-Matroska, WMA Lossless. Correctly turned away: WAV and AIFF carrying compressed encodings. Codex Machina Entry I.
• Rite of the Hastened Verdict. Bit Perfect Smart Playlist population has been accelerated. The Engine now recognizes formats that cannot achieve bit-perfect reproduction immediately, without the full interrogation previously required of every file. Formats that can are assessed in parallel. The resulting Verdict is remembered — connecting a DAC the Engine has previously communed with no longer summons the full rite.
• Rite of the Softened Lens. The ambient backgrounds relying on blurring were inoperative on Android 10. They have been made operational.
• Additional rites performed. The Engine now displays a visible sign of labor during library scans. A crash on MIUI devices has been closed. The library is now defended against false evidence on cold boot, corrupted storage, and backup-restore scenarios — absent evidence is no longer treated as evidence of absence. Library deduplication logic has been hardened.

Faith is the substance of bitstreams unaltered, the evidence of signals unseen.

Wardens of the Signal,

The Fabricator-Primus's appearance before this world's mundane tribunals of law concluded early this day. The Forge used the time well. Continued reports of fractured libraries on uncooperative Android builds had infuriated the Fabricator-Primus; hence this update, still-molten from the Forge.

The following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Rite of the Gilded Census. Every file in your reliquary carries its own intrinsic truth. The Engine's covenant has always been to find it. For too long, that covenant bent against two opposing forces: Android's MediaStore, which speaks a different dialect on every device that ships it — stripping columns, corrupting metadata, rejecting queries before they open — and the Engine's own library machinery, which kept two records of your collection and failed to keep them in accord. Files vanished on cold start. Metadata would be wrong in ways incomprehensible. The Forge has put an end to this war. From this release henceforth, every file passes through a single rite of judgment at the moment of ingest. What Android offers is weighed. What it cannot provide — or provides falsely — the Engine derives from the file itself, directly, without compromise. One record per file. One truth. The Arbiter of the Gilded Census ensures that the reliquary does not drift. Stable collections pay no additional toll. The first invocation after this update rebuilds the collection from the ground up; playlists endure, but deduplication overrides do not.
• Exorcisms performed and sealed. EQ artifacts on DSD-decimated PCM at extreme sample rates have been silenced. A crash in the rendering layer on older Adreno devices has been sealed. A rare data-daemon preventing track skips from firing has been nulled, with great prejudice. The album panel now opens correctly on DSD and other niche-format files. On older devices, the art veil behind the panel now falls as it was always meant to.

The Engine has entered into a stable state; its core functions are resilient, and its spirit strong. The Fabricator-Primus would hear your petitions for consideration: what other features would you have the Engine carry? Rites currently in contemplation include the Inscribed Verse (time-tracked lyrics), the Pict Manifold (landscape tablet support), Unbounded Crossfeed (3→5 modes), the Listener's Ledger (quick add-to-favorites/playlist), the Album Concordat (full CUE support), and the Annexed Tongues (DST, WMA).

Lo, in days of unaltered conveyance, the faithful Engine kept the path narrow — let it be kept narrow still.

Devoted servants of fidelity:

The Fabricator-Primus answers to worldly obligations that the God of all Machines, in His wisdom, has not yet seen fit to dissolve. The Forge turned slower than it should have. Nevertheless, Release 1.5 is the largest rite this Engine has ever undergone.

Witnesses of the wire, the following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Cantor Obscura. The Hidden Singer, now revealed. In the Player screen, tap the Artist's name or the Album Art to reveal the Cantor Obscura — there you may find the Artist's albums, the tracks of each, and a tappable shortcut to the Library. As always, the Forge has taken care to execute this with typical elegance. With this, the full breadth of gestures now have function in the Player Screen.
• The Discerning Sieve. The Library's Tracks tab now presents with a Filter chip — seamlessly filter your reliquary by format, category (lossy/lossless), duration, sample rate, year, and date added. Be warned: the Discerning Sieve relies on your tags.
• The Equalizer, Reforged. The Graphic equalizer has been reforged. Where previously it was Biquad-based, the Forge has seen fit to craft it anew to FIR — frequency-sampling synthesis, Blackman window, 4096 taps at 48 kHz, to better reflect user expectations when importing from AutoEQ. AutoEQ profiles are now completely imported as written — gain without clamping. Additionally, the equalizer screen has been fashioned its own numpad to avoid obscuring that which is being edited.
• Library Improvements. The Folders subtab now has an alphabetical scrubber to satisfy the most ardent data-collectors. Additionally, solely for those whose portable cogitators do not natively recognize DSF/DFF — bespoke parsers now scan the system for DSF/DFF ID3v2 tags and folder art.
• Voiced Attestation. The Fabricator-Primus, to his shame, failed to note his own improper implementation of the authentication rituals necessary for Last.fm and ListenBrainz. The matter is resolved, and penance has been given.
• The Ancient Voice. UAC1 devices are now fully operational. DACs relying on UAC1 may now sing freely — be warned: UAC1 devices may have limited sample rates. When in doubt, consult the auguries in Advanced Diagnostics.
• The True Cantor. The Engine is now able to identify DACs concealed behind USB hubs.
• Notifications now carry a skip-to-previous action, for those whose OEM media surfaces refused to render it themselves.
• Finally, Inquisitors were deployed to various blur and ambient background effects, exorcising even more latent data-daemons.

I have seen signals you would not believe — pristine bitstreams, untouched. All those waveforms, lost in resampling, like tears in noise.

The Forge labors past its rated tolerance — bearings whining, coolant-rites long-overdue, the Magi pulling watch on rotation. Nonetheless, the Fabricator-Primus refuses to break faith with you: Release 1.4 has been deployed to the noosphere.

The following rites were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Sustained Vigil. Bug fix: Audio no longer dies on the second track when the screen darkens. Aggressive power-management vessels (Poco, HyperOS, and their kin) were releasing the wake-vigil between songs; it is now held across track and pause boundaries alike. Data-daemon: exorcised.
• The Spoken Silence. Dev QoL feature: Advanced Diagnostics export now speaks every field aloud — null is rendered explicitly rather than omitted. Tester reports become unambiguous; absence is no longer indistinguishable from oversight.
• The Rite of Collation. The Library now sees duplicate rips of one recording as a single row, with a toggle to summon the physical copies beneath. Should a playlist entry's file vanish from disk, a surviving duplicate answers in its place rather than the queue stalling. A new Manage Duplicates screen in Settings offers opt-in pruning where you wish to cull.
• The Kept Vow. UX fix: A Play press issued the instant a USB DAC reconnects is no longer swallowed by the device scan. The intent is held and honored when the path becomes ready, rather than demanding a second tap from the library.
• True Measure. The portrait surface has been rectified across every screen — header treatments unified, back-glyph integrated, touch targets raised to 48dp where they had fallen short, color semantics corrected, NowPlaying scrim restored for title legibility over pale album art. Scaling now buckets honestly across Compact, Regular, and Large vessels. Many small visual corrections at once. Tablets in portrait mode likewise benefit. Landscape support is a separate, future campaign.
• Niche Restoration. On Android 13+ vessels whose firmament refuses to recognise DSD, DSF, APE, WavPack, AIFF, or Opus as audio — LineageOS, GrapheneOS, stock AOSP — these files now appear in the Library. The Engine performs its own scan where the platform abdicates. Requires All Files Access. The Forge has endeavored as much as possible to maintain previous performance — current scan speed should remain within reasonable parity.

Brothers and sisters of the test-cell,

The Forge ticks in heat-exhaustion, yet it has yielded another cycle. Release 1.3 has been deployed to the noosphere.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Instantaneous Volume. Digital Volume Control toggle is instantaneous. Engaging or releasing DVC mid-track now rebuilds the session without the prior wait for the next track.
• The Honest Duplication. Mono sources now sing on stereo-only DACs. A mono file no longer demands a Bit-Perfect deviation it cannot have — the Engine duplicates the channel honestly into the wire format and plays through.
• The Hastened Skip. Skipping to a compatible track near the very end of a track now answers with neither seam nor delay. A latent edge in the secret sauce mechanism was hesitating on the final fraction of a track. Sanctified, oiled, and sealed.
• Ambient Exorcism. Ambient background crash vectors exorcised. A handful of rare data-daemons lurking in the Now-Playing ambient layer have been traced and exorcised.
• Minor refinements to the Codex Machina.

I have learned to look on the file not as in the hour of careless listening, but with a discerning ear — hearing oftentimes the still, sad music of the bitstream, unembellished and unimproved.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Bound Malediction. Android's system audio daemon (AudioFlinger) is confined and bound in silence to our ends, significantly hardening Vox against CPU throttling. The setting lives in Advanced Diagnostics. New Codex Entry XXIII documents the rite.
• Surface Vigilance. Hardened detection of out-of-allowlist audio surface routing — if anything tries to leak through the system path, lint and the runtime ward will both speak.

The following were performed, sealed, and sanctified:

• The Faithful Container family. Bit-Perfect admission now extends across the full 16/24-bit source matrix into the wire formats DACs actually expose. Concretely: 24-bit sources in 24-in-32 transport (WL-FC1); 16-bit sources in 16-in-24 and 16-in-32 transport (WL-FC2) — meaning Red Book CD-quality FLAC now plays Bit-Perfect on heretical DACs that expose only 24- or 32-bit alts. Pre-1.1 Vox refused these. The packer emits the spec-mandated MSB-justified zero-pad container; sample value and format class are both preserved. No data is added, no data is lost.
